The VCE VET Program in Certificate II in Electrotechnology Studies (pre-vocational) is a Victorian accredited curriculum that offers students the opportunity to develop their skills and knowledge across a range of electrical sectors, including electrical, electronics, refrigeration and mechanical engineering.
The course provides students the opportunity to learn about work health and safety, electrical concepts and applications, parts and components, communication, mathematics, electrical wiring and equipment and drawings and diagrams.
Application Restrictions: Applicants must have successfully completed Year 10 to be considered for this course.
Recognition within the VCE and VCE VM
This course contributes towards VCE and VCE VM.
VCE Contribution: The VCE VET Electrical Industry program does not offer scored assessment. A student who achieves a Units 3 and 4 sequence may be eligible for an increment towards their ATAR. Increments for a VCE VET Program Non-Scored Units 3 and 4 sequence will be calculated using 10% of the fourth study score of the primary four.
Program Content
The Certificate II in Electrotechnology Studies (pre-vocational) consists of 15 units of competency (UOCs) completed over two years.
UOCs may include:
- Prepare to work safely in the construction industry
- Provide first aid
- Apply OHS regulations, codes and practices in the workplace
- Fabricate, assemble and dismantle utilities industry components
- Solve problems in ELV single path circuits
- Fix and secure electrotechnology equipment
- Establish the basic operating conditions of air conditioning systems
- Perform intermediate engineering computations
- Install a sustainable ELV energy power system
- Carry out basic electrotechnology project
- Provide an overview of the electrotechnology industry
- Use test equipment in the electrotechnology industry
- Carry out basic cabling for ELV equipment devices
- Attach cords and plugs to electrical equipment for connection to a single phase 230 volt supply
- Conduct in service safety testing of electrical cord connected equipment and cord assemblies
Additional Information
Entry Requirements: Students wishing to study a VET course will need to complete the relevant application form (in addition to completing subject selections). To be considered for a VET course, students must have successfully completed Year 10 and are expected to have sound skills in the areas of learning, reading, writing, oral communication and literacy. Students are also expected to have sound skills in the area of numeracy / mathematics. Students need to demonstrate a mature approach and commitment to their studies and learning.

Fees: Indicative fees for Certificate II in Electrotechnology Studies (pre-vocational) are $800.00(per year of study) *VET fees are subject to change.

* VET Courses are subject to minimum and maximum student applications and therefore places and course commencement cannot be guaranteed. Where minimum class numbers are not attained and a course does not commence, students may be able to apply at an alternate training provider offering the course. Training Providers may prioritise positions based on applicant year level.
