The VCE VET Program in Certificate III in Make-Up provides skills and knowledge to undertake roles as make-up artists designing and applying make-up across the beauty, fashion, media and entertainment industries. Skills are developed for work in make-up studios, retail cosmetic counters, fashion and media sets, and photography studios.

This course contributes towards VCE and VCE VM.

Students who receive a Units 3 and 4 sequence for Certificate III in Make-Up will be eligible for an increment towards their ATAR (10% of the lowest study score of the primary four studies).

Program Content

The Certificate III in Make-Up consists of 15 units of competency (UOCs) undertaken over two years

UOCs may include:

  • Design and apply make-up
  • Design and apply remedial camouflage make-up
  • Research and apply beauty industry information
  • Comply with organisational requirements within a personal services environment
  • Apply safe hygiene, health and work practices
  • Apply cosmetic tanning products
  • Advise on beauty products and services 
  • Provide lash and brow services
  • Conduct salon financial transactions
  • Design and apply make-up for photography
  • Apply airbrushed make-up
  • Design and apply creative make-up
  • Provide salon services to clients
  • Market the small business
  • Undertake small business planning

Additional Information

* Partial CompletionThe full certificate cannot be delivered in the time allocated for VET subjects, this decision is made with the approval of the VCAA and will not have any impact on the program credit to the 1&2 and 3&4 sequenceTraining providers will offer bridging courses for those students who would like to complete the qualification post school.

Entry Requirements: Students wishing to study a VET course will need to complete the relevant application form (in addition to completing subject selections). To be considered for a VET course, students are expected to have sound skills in the areas of learning, reading, writing, oral communication and literacy. Students also need to demonstrate a mature approach and commitment to their studies and learning.

Fees: Indicative fees for Certificate III in Make-up are $800.00 (per year of study) *VET fees are subject to change.

Personal Protective Equipment, resources and tools: This program requires the purchase of additional items which remain the property of the student. These items are used over the duration of the course and will be beneficial to students proceeding to further study in the industry/an apprenticeship. The equipment list will be provided to students allocated a position prior to commencement.

* VET Courses are subject to minimum and maximum student applications and therefore places and course commencement cannot be guaranteed. Where minimum class numbers are not attained and a course does not commence, students may be able to apply at an alternate training provider offering the course.  Training Providers may prioritise positions based on applicant year level.

Students are encouraged to consider and prepare alternate subject or VET preferences.
