{"id":752,"date":"2023-05-31T08:22:57","date_gmt":"2023-05-30T22:22:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/handbooks.sjc.vic.edu.au\/?page_id=752"},"modified":"2025-06-17T11:17:01","modified_gmt":"2025-06-17T01:17:01","slug":"vce-vet-animal-care","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/handbooks.sjc.vic.edu.au\/?page_id=752","title":{"rendered":"VCE VET Animal Care"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"acm20121-certificate-ii-in-animal-care\"><strong>ACM20121 &#8211; Certificate II in Animal Care<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table has-small-font-size\"><table class=\"has-fixed-layout\"><tbody><tr><td>Duration: <br>Two&nbsp;Years<\/td><td>Training Location: <br>Covenant College and&nbsp;The Gordon (East Campus)<\/td><td>VCE Contribution: <br>Non-scored<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\">The VCE VET Program in\u00a0Certificate II in Animal Care,\u00a0provides students with a broad range of skills and knowledge to pursue a career or further training in the animal care and management industry in a range of areas such as: Animal control and regulation, animal technology, captive animals, pet grooming and veterinary nursing. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>Recognition within the VCE and VCE VM<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\">This course contributes towards the VCE and VCE VM.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\">Students who receive a VCE VET Units 3 and 4 sequence for the VCE VET Animal Care qualification will be eligible for an increment towards their ATAR (10% of the lowest study score of the primary four studies).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading has-medium-font-size\" id=\"program-content\"><strong>Program Content<\/strong><\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\">The Certificate II in Animal Care consists of 12 units of competency (UOCs) completed over two years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\">UOCs may include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li class=\"has-small-font-size\"><em>\u200b\u200b\u200b\u200b\u200b\u200b\u200bWork in the animal care industry<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-small-font-size\"><em>Complete animal care hygiene routines<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-small-font-size\"><em>Feed and water animals<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-small-font-size\"><em>Assist in the health care of animals<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-small-font-size\"><em>Apply communication skills<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-small-font-size\"><em>Participate in workplace health and safety processes<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-small-font-size\"><em>Participate in environmentally sustainable work practices<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-small-font-size\"><em>+ four additional electives (determined by the training provider)<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/stjosephscollegegeelong.sharepoint.com\/sites\/Handbooks\/SitePages\/Animal-Studies.aspx#anchor-1\"><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"additional-information\"><strong>Additional Information<\/strong><\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\"><strong>Entry Requirements:&nbsp;<\/strong>Students wishing to study a VET course will need to complete the relevant application form (in addition to completing subject selections). To be considered for a VET course, students are expected to have sound skills in the areas of learning, reading, writing, oral communication and literacy. Students also need to demonstrate a mature approach and commitment to their studies and learning.
