The VCE VET Program in Certificate III in Music Industry – Performance provides students with the foundation knowledge and skills required for entry into the music industry.
Core units of competency in the program include developing and updating industry knowledge, participating in work, health and safety processes and working effectively with others. The elective units in the program allow students to focus on an area of their interest such as performing simple pieces, mixing sound in a broadcasting environment or repairing and maintaining audio equipment.
Music Performance: provides students with the opportunity to apply a broad range of knowledge and skills in varied work contexts in the music industry. Depending on the electives chosen, Units 1 and 2 can include making a music demo, composing simple songs or musical pieces and developing ensemble skills. Units 3 and 4 offer scored assessment and include units such as developing improvisation skills, preparing for performance and performing music as part of a group or as a soloist.
Recognition within the VCE and VCE VM
This course contributes towards VCE and VCE VM.
Scored assessment is available for Certificate III in Music Industry – Performance (based on the scored units 3 and 4 sequence). Students wishing to receive an ATAR contribution for a Certificate III in Music Industry – Performance must undertake scored assessment for the purpose of achieving a study score.
Music Performance scored assessment consists of three coursework tasks worth 50% of the overall study score and an end of year performance examination worth 50% of the overall study score.
This study score can contribute directly to the ATAR, either as one of the student’s best four studies (the primary four) or as a fifth or sixth study.
Where a student elects not to receive a study score for the Music Performance, no contribution to the ATAR will be available.
Program Content
The Certificate III in Music Industry – Performance consists of 11 units of competency (UOCs) completed over two years.
UOCs may include:
Unit 1 and 2
- Implement copyright arrangements
- Work effectively in the music industry
- Plan a career in the creative arts industry
- + 3 Electives from the Music Industry Elective bank (will be determined by Training Provider)
Unit 3 and 4 – Music Performance
- Develop technical skills in performance
- Prepare for musical performances
- Develop and perform musical improvisation
- Develop and apply stagecraft skills
- + 1 Elective selected from the following: Perform music as part of a group / Perform music as a soloist
Additional Information
Entry Requirements: Students wishing to study a VET course will need to complete the relevant application form (in addition to completing subject selections). To be considered for a VET course, students are expected to have sound skills in the areas of learning, reading, writing, oral communication and literacy. Students also need to demonstrate a mature approach and commitment to their studies and learning.
Fees: Indicative fees for Certificate III in Music Industry – Performance are $800.00 (per year of study) *VET fees are subject to change.

* VET Courses are subject to minimum and maximum student applications and therefore places and course commencement cannot be guaranteed. Where minimum class numbers are not attained and a course does not commence, students may be able to apply at an alternate training provider offering the course. Training Providers may prioritise positions based on applicant year level.
Students are encouraged to consider and prepare alternate subject or VET preferences.

The program at Sacred Heart College is delivered through an auspice partnership with Registered Training Organisation Collarts. Auspicing enables school staff to deliver and assess VET programs overseen by the RTO. Through their vocational management system, Collarts are responsible for accreditation of the VET delivery and awarding of certificates / statements of attainment. Collarts provide support throughout the delivery with onsite visits and review of documentation to ensure a quality assured program is provided.
